This project is my personal exploration of my relationship with the Universe. I think dreams somehow connected with the Universe. I always feel like I enter a different space when I am dreaming. I usually forget most of the narratives in my dreams, but there are some weird feelings and distorted scenes left in my mind. Thus, I decide to transform my dreams into this project.
I use four footage in this video, and they are all shooting in a gallery. The original video shows four different objects hanging on the wall. There is a spotlight above them, and the light is swinging from side to side. Some parts of the shapes are revealed, and some parts are concealed. These videos fit my expectations for scenes in my dreams, but they lack the sense of unfamiliarity. Therefore, I edit them into abstract and distorted shapes to achieve defamiliarization.
The sound in my project plays an important role. The main component is the sound of water. Firstly, the rhythm of moving abstract shapes matches the movement of water flow. Secondly, water adds a symbolic meaning in my project. The sound of water calms me down, and it makes me feel more connected with nature and the Universe.
For the technical parts, I used Premiere to create distort effects. These effects make the shapes look very vivid and abstract. Cross Dissolve and Dip to Black are two of the transition tools I use, and it makes the transitions look natural and smooth.
For the sound part, the recording device I am using is a Sony UX560. I record three sounds in total. They are sound of the wind, the flowing water, and the water drip. For the post-production, I use Logic Pro to apply echo effects and cave effects. I also change the pan of the sound part to give the audience a sense of space.
