I have stayed at home since March 12. My life becomes very disordered. My daily routine is a mess, and I feel like I lose a sense of time. The time flies, and I don’t even notice that. Thus, I decided to test my understanding of time.
After I set my camera, I sat on the floor doing nothing without looking at the time. I was wondering how long I can sit, and I would make an assumption about how long the time passed. I gave myself two clues to detect the time. I put an incense in front of me, it takes at least 15 minutes to burn out. I also wet my hoodie, but I was not sure how long would take it to dry.
These two things allowed me to guess the time. The result is very interesting because I never felt the time passed so slowly. I only sat there for 2 hours, but I felt like it has been more than 4 hours. The boredom almost killed me.
Before I did this experiment, I did a little research about boredom. There is one study that surprised me; it said people would rather be electrically shocked than left alone with their thoughts. I didn’t believe that at first, but after I did my project, I felt the same way as other people who would electrically shock themselves.
However, I think the process of doing this test my ability to appreciate the time, and it is a good experience to feel time. Because of the rising of the technologies, we barely have a chance to get bored. There is always something we can do on the internet, and we can talk with a person who lives another side of the Earth. I knew time flies when I spend too much time online, but this was the first I felt it in my heart.
